The new state law that came out July 1, 2019 states that all new motors that are installed have to come with a battery back up unit.
Also, if you need to install a new door, you must install a new motor with an accompanying battery back up with it, to stand by the statecode. (Safety issue)
Every brand of garage door motors have a different battery.
The life time of the battery should hold for 2 to 3 years. The motor light will blink and beep letting you know the battery is about to die and needs to be replaced.
It is very important when you change the battery, it is the correct one. If it is a Lift Master motor, it has to be a Lift Master battery. Same with Genie, Craftsman, Chamberlain, and many more.
(Battery backs up are not universal!!!)
You can also change it your self, if you have the manufacturer and model number. If you find you can’t do it, feel free to call us.
